The aim of cocoa breeding program in MCB are to produce and improve cocoa planting materials with specific objectives such as breeding for high yielding, tolerance to pests and diseases, good pod and bean characteristics, good quality with high butter content and good flavour, and other desirable agronomic traits. The program involves genetic materials enhancement, progeny and clonal trials establishment, outstanding genotypes selection, characterization and evaluation of selected materials and also clonal observation plots and multi-location trials establishment.
